Another quadrate is under care
Degraded land in definition are lands which has lost the value of the biophysical environment is affected by a combination of human activities such as forest logging, soil compacting and forest burning. These lands often perceived as less valuable due to the damage that has been done to it. Our challenge is to restore this land to its primary forest state.
As for sites, we are blessed with degraded forest with existing trees which need further care and also barren land which become our learning ground for healing process. In the area which we manage more than 270,000 existing trees we conduct our ground operation including undergrowth clean up, fertilisation, Geo-tag trees on their true coordinates and seek for signs for tree health in the case of need for rehabilitation. These data are registered within our tree inventory for carbon sequestration validation. Our enrichment and reforestation program, at 8.5:1.5 ratio of dipterocarps to fruit-bearing trees, so the wildlife can return to a healthy jungle.
To complete this task we adopt GNSS GPS system to get true coordinates. Trees to be planted have space allowance of 4m x 4m in between so the trees can grow healthily and wider in the their diameters. Our site is segmented into quadrate of 10 acres of area each, and every quadrate requires 10 locals as employees to help us maintain the forest and to nurture the trees. They also report the wildlife presence at sites for the purpose of our monitoring and safety of other workers.
To accurately monitor the area, we also adopt aerial surveillance to ensure that what we could not survey on the ground will be able to do so with drones. With thermal drones we will be able to monitor animals, trees and also manpower at sites.
